Refractory materials are mainly used in industrial furnaces, kilns, and ladles of primary industries like steel works and aluminium smelters.
Refractory materials, like all other industrial minerals, have a limited lifetime, and at the end of their lifespan, furnaces, kilns, and ladles have to be demolished and rebuilt. For the demolished spent refractories, recycling becomes an option instead of to landfills.
