Waste management

Over the last 40 years, the core of our business is refractory waste; how to handle it, collect it, identify it and how turn it into new useable materials again. All this starts with Waste Management. We have been collecting refractory waste of all different places all over the world in order to maximize recycling at minimum cost. An important part of these costs is logistics related.

In taking care of your refractory waste, we can offer several options:

On Site Recycling Unit

At major primary Steel or Aluminium plants we can install a permanent installation in order to recycle large volumes of refractory waste which enters the site on a continuous and daily bases. With a dedicated team of experienced operators all equipped with the VCA* certificate, we handle the refractory waste on site as a stand-alone operation.

Mobile Recycling Unit

Mineralen Kollée also offers a Mobile Installation Unit for handling smaller amounts of refractory waste. The Mobile Team has experience in handling the Unit and being on site temporary. They can set up the unit within 6 hours to handle the accumulated refractory waste in a short period of time.

FIXED LOCATION

In the middle of the industrial heart of Europe we have set up a permanent site for smaller volumes of all kind of different sources. The site has the necessary permits and licenses to operate within local, national and international legislation and regulations concerning waste and waste handling. Special attention is given to dust control and water management meaning  the site can handle all kinds of hazardous and non-hazardous refractory waste.

Laser Unit

In 2008 we installed a unique Laser Unit to identify several qualities which could not be identified visually by our teams or needed to have a better picking identification altogether. The technique behind the Laser Unit is based on Laser-Induced Plasma Spectroscopy (LIPS), a technique for rapid and noncontact chemical analysis. It can identify bricks with an 98,5% accuracy in an industrial environment and an industrial process.

Logistics

Logistics play a major part of the solution for your refractory waste and the costs involved. We commit ourselves to guaranting a speedy and efficient evacuation of all waste materials, in full compliance with current environmental legislation and safety regulations. We take care of all the paperwork related to the evacuation. This is in line with the legislation as laid out at the Basel Convention on transboundary of (non-) hazardous waste and their disposal, in order to enhance the traceability of the refractory waste. All of our logistic partners have the needed (inter)national waste licenses and experience in handling this.

We have 3 main options to move the refractory waste and for the supply of secondary raw materials:

Tipper trucks

Tipper trucks are the most common way for transporting bulk goods. Flexible and easy access to all major industrial sites, a tipper truck is a good way of transporting the refractory waste. Our tipper trucks are always equipped with covering systems to avoid dust.

Container shipping

We have an extensive experience in shipping containers, predominantly 20 ft containers fit for shipping bulky materials. We know how to get a maximum load into each containers in order to minimize costs.

Shipping bulk

Shipping per vessel is a good option when plants have an own dock or one in a close proximity. Loading is done swiftly and stocks can be shifted quickly. Also bulk shipping is a lot more CO2 friendly then the above 2 options.
